Update
On April 4 I had 88 iodine-125 seeds implanted in my prostate. The half-life is 60 days so after one year there is no more radiation but they remain there for life. They are smaller than grains of rice. The amount of radiation is small for people near me, like taking a flight at 35,000 feet, but in my prostate it is constant and localized. The only precaution is not to have a young child on my lap for more than 5 hours a week.
I had a spinal anaesthetic and was sedated while they inserted the seeds. Since then my prostate has swollen, I feel an desperate need to pee but the flow is weak. I take Flomax for 30 days and an antibiotic for 8 days. I get up 4-5 times every night.
The good news is we caught it early and the cure rates are very high.
